Ever Been Licked by a Giraffe?

Well, Katie can now answer, "Yes!" to that question. Yesterday we went to the Woodland Park Zoo. We walked by the giraffes during the time when they were letting visitors hand feed them. For 5 bucks a person, they'll let you hand a bunch of leaves to the hungry giraffes. There were two of them, both about 2 years old. It was quite a thrill to see them so close! Katie wasn't scared at all and did a great job feeding them all by herself. As she reached out to give them one last bunch of leaves, one of the giraffes swiftly lowered his head toward Katie's hand and his long, purple tongue wrapped around her hand before taking the leaves into his mouth. She was so thrilled! Her face lit up with excitement. And, can you believe it, I have no pictures of the whole thing! I decided that I would not take any cameras so I could just focus on enjoying the day without the task of photographing it. I now wish I had taken a camera though. I could have gotten some terrific up-close-and-personal shots of a giraffe. Oh well. We'll just have to do it again.
